... And the Guadalupe River!
What is being proposed?
The Guadalupe River and River Road in Comal County are Texas treasures long enjoyed by residents and numerous visitors. The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDoT) has proposed a New Braunfels Outer Loop which includes a multi lane freeway overpass over scenic 2nd Crossing on River Road. This proposal will do irreparable damage to the river bed and bank. Noise and air pollution will permeate throughout the Guadalupe River canyon. The Texas Hill Country ambiance will be lost forever.
Help preserve our Texas Heritage and Natural Resources. Save River Road and the Guadalupe River.
EFFECTS ON THE GUADALUPE RIVER AND RIVER ROAD
- The Guadalupe River has been a vital resource for Comal and Guadalupe Counties for hundreds of years. People have depended on the river for transportation, agricultural and ranching purposes, as well as recreation. Fragile ecosystems, wildlife and aquatic species depend on a pure water system for survival. The tourism industry in Comal County thrives because people want to come and enjoy the natural beauty of the terrain and the clear waters of the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers.
- The 10.5 mile drive along River Road from New Braunfels to Sattler is a natural historically significant resource for this county and the State of Texas. There is no other comparable drive with its beauty and uniqueness. To desecrate this beautiful area is to rob the citizens of this county and this state of our inheritance. We don’t own this beautiful natural resource but are merely caretakers for future generations.
- Imagine the destruction that will happen when a multi lane highway goes over 2nd Crossing as proposed. Consider the pilings, concrete, truck noise, pollution and damage to the river bed and bank as this structure is built and used.
- The proposed area may also include habitat for endangered species.
