The New Braunfels city council workshop held Monday, February 13 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center to study and deliberate The Regional Transportation Plan proposals was well attended by citizens and interested parties.
Both the Outer Loop Plan and the more recent Parkway Plan were discussed and the result was a proposed compromise plan, combining features of both plans.
The outer loop plan would have encircled the city with an expressway type roadway. The Parkway plan, which was developed by staffers and consultants working on the project, featured a narrower, lower-speed parkway which was described as being more environmentally friendly. The parkway plan, however left the area west of New Braunfels between Texas Highway 46 and FM Rd 306 free from any major roadways.
The compromise is to use features of both plans where appropriate and more suitable and is to include the incorporation of a road plan connecting Texas Highway 46 and FM Road 306.
City Council staff will as a result prepare a compromise plan for future presentation. No date yet has been established.
Obviously we are disappointed by this decision because it impacts one of our most important areas of concern. We must continue our vigilance and making our voices heard. We must persevere in our endeavors of calling attention to not only growth needs, but to sensible and environmentally safe proposals.
The future belongs to ALL of us!
