Compromise Proposed for the Regional Transportation Plan

The New Braunfels city council workshop held Monday, February 13 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center to study and deliberate The Regional Transportation Plan proposals was well attended by citizens and interested parties.

Both the Outer Loop Plan and the more recent Parkway Plan were discussed and the result was a proposed compromise plan, combining features of both plans. [more]

It's Time to Stand Up and Be Heard!

City Council will hold a workshop Monday, February 13 at 4:30 PM in Council chambers to discuss two options for addressing the future transportation needs of New Braunfels and the County.

Partly in response to the outcry from those of us interested in protecting the Hill Country environment, including the Guadalupe River (particularly at 2nd crossing), the Planning Department worked with transportation experts to develop a plan that did not destroy natural habitats, the river, and the country-side. The fight to protect River Road and the Guadalupe River has been ongoing for over 3 years. It has been an up and down battle and sometimes, it’s been very confusing. This is a look at events since September of 2011.

The New Braunfels City Planning Department after working with transportation experts from the City of Seguin, Guadalupe County, Comal County, TX Dot and the consulting team hired by the city presented a new transportation plan to the City Council and the New Braunfels Planning Commission in September, 2011. City Council Delays Vote on Transportation Plan

An overflow crowd attended the City Council meeting last night to weigh in on the proposed parkway plan. Many praised the plan for facilitating traffic flows while preserving the environment and natural areas. Many homes and farms have been protected by the parkway plan.

However, others commented that the parkway plan would be detrimental to their farms in the Engle Road area. Several citizens suggested that these folks work with the city planning department to reach an agreeable resolution to their concerns. [more]

One Step Closer

The New Braunfels Planning Commission, after a lengthy discussion, voted 5 to 3 to endorse the City’s proposed transportation plan (called the Parkway Plan) without the Outer Loop at a meeting on Tuesday, November 15.

Minor changes were made, and now the plan will go forward to the City Council for its deciding vote. [more]

The Planning and Zoning Commission did not make a recommendation on the proposed transportation plan at their October 11 meeting.

The Commission Chair, Cheryl Casteel, is forcefully trying to get the “Outer Loop” back on the plan. [more]

Thursday evening’s community meeting “Positive Solutions to Protect our Rivers” attracted over 100 participants. Passionate views were expressed by both sides of the ‘Disposable Container Debate’ which will be voted on November 8, 2011, by the citizens of New Braunfels.

New Braunfels’s City staffer, Stacy Snell, gave a presentation on the proposed transportation plan. The new plan does not include a roadway over the Guadalupe River and River Road. [more]
