MPO Road Map

About 90 people attended the first public meeting in New Braunfels as part of the effort to create a new metropolitan planning organization (MPO) in the New Braunfels / Seguin area.

As per federal law, an MPO is required for all cities and their extra territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) that have 50,000 population. That includes us. Federal transportation funds will be tied to this MPO requirement. New Braunfels and Seguin are actively working to form a regional MPO. The San Antonio area has an MPO with 40 plus jurisdictions, including the city of Garden Ridge. [more]

River group speaks out against bridge

As many as 95 people crowded into the Canyon Lake Action Center to address commissioners Jan Kennady and Donna Eccleston regarding the plan to build a high rise expansion bridge accross the Guadalupe River.

County engineer Tom Hornseth provided a presentation to the group, which includedproposed roadways that would form the New Braunfels Outer Loop, and take a bridge accross the Guadalupe River just south of Sattler. [more]

Citizens gather to protest section of proposed loop

SATTLER – It was standing-room only Wednesday at Community Resource & Recreation Center, as impassioned residents lobbied to save a scenic portion of the Guadalupe River from becoming a stop on the proposed New Braunfels Outer Loop (NBOL).

Around 60 people crammed into the small meeting room to voice environmental concerns about what the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has dubbed section "B" of the proposed outer loop – a cross-section that includes a bridge that would be built near the second crossing at River Road, and that arches
almost entirely over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. [more]

More than 500 people signed in Thursday night at Canyon High School to view TxDOT's recommended corridor for a new loop around New Braunfels and voice their opinions.

RJ Rivera Associates, Inc. prepared the New Braunfels Outer Loop Study, undertaken in April 2007, to identify a corridor for the possible development of a New Braunfels Outer Loop (NBOL). Thursday's Open House presented the recommended route for the loop as well as maps detailing the processes the study used to narrow down potential locations. [more]

The meeting was the second opportunity for members of the public to view possible route locations for the proposed outer loop. Participants had mixed reactions to the maps on display with some expressing relief that options near their property had been screened out of the process, while others remained concerned by the remaining options.
