Citizens gather to protest section of proposed loop

SATTLER – It was standing-room only Wednesday at Community Resource & Recreation Center, as impassioned residents lobbied to save a scenic portion of the Guadalupe River from becoming a stop on the proposed New Braunfels Outer Loop (NBOL).

Around 60 people crammed into the small meeting room to voice environmental concerns about what the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has dubbed section "B" of the proposed outer loop – a cross-section that includes a bridge that would be built near the second crossing at River Road, and that arches
almost entirely over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone. [more]

TxDOT Convenes Task Force to Review New Braunfels Outer Loop Study Findings

NEW BRAUNFELS – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) San Antonio District announced plans to convene a task force to review the findings of the New Braunfels Outer Loop Study. The decision was prompted by concerns and/or questions raised by the public regarding the process and some of the data.

“As the new district engineer, it’s important to me that our projects are sensitive to concerns raised by local property owners and residents,” said Mario Medina, TxDOT San Antonio District Engineer. “The task force is meant to bring transparency to the process and ensure we didn’t miss anything during our evaluations.” [more]

Area residents weigh in on TxDOT’s future

AUSTIN — Some New Braunfels area residents toughed out the 12-hour long Sunset Advisory Commission hearing Tuesday in Austin reviewing the practices of the Texas Department of Transportation.

The commission characterized TxDOT as agenda-driven and untrustworthy, and lawmakers raised the possibility of making the state transportation commissioner an elected position rather than governor-appointed. [more]

Two meetings have been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. — one tonight and the other on Thursday — at Canyon High School for property owners who could potentially be affected by the latest revisions to the proposed Outer Loop corridor. Altwein family protests pathway of Outer Loop

SCHUMANNSVILLE — Johann Gotthulf and Wilhelmine Altwein moved from Prussia to Texas in 1851.

They settled on a farm on the west bank of the Guadalupe River, which today is a narrow section of the waterway below Lake Dunlap dam and Lake McQueeney Dam. [more]
